Fishing Information

The salmon fishing season in Prince William Sound runs from June 1 to September 1. During this period approximately 20 million salmon will come into Valdez Bay. Daily catch limits per fisherman is 6 salmon of which 2 may be King salmon. June is best month fishing for King salmon while July and August for Pink and Silver salmon.

3 day fishing licenses are available for $20. King salmon fishing stamps are an additional $10. All fishing tackle and bait is provided by Swiftys Alaskan Adventures.

All Swift's charter boats are captained by USCG licensed captains. Each charter boat is equipped with Radar, GPS, Fishfinders, 2 radios and a cell phone. Each captain is also a licensed Alaskan Fishing Guide who will assist you in catching your 1st Alaskan salmon. Swifty's charter boats each accommodate 4-6 fisherman.

Salmon filleting services are available dockside. Local companies are available for flash freezing and vacuum packaging your catch for shipping. The airlines allow you to check free 2 pieces of luggage which can be 2-50 pound boxes of salmon. So plan ahead accordingly.

The weather in Valdez during this period can be 65-75 degrees. The weather in Valdez is very changeable so bring raingear. Bring your camera. While fishing in Valdez Bay you may see Eagles, Sea Otters, Sea Lions, and other wildlife along the shoreline.

You need transportation while in Valdez. We suggest you rent a car and drive to Valdez from Anchorage. It is a 6 hour drive through some of the most beautiful scenery in Alaska. See Maps on this website for directions to Swifty's.

Check into Swifty's by 11am on your 1st scheduled day of fishing. You will be fishing for the famed Alaska salmon that afternoon.

Halibut or Shark fishing requires extra day stay at $600 a day.
